In the US there is the association by the name of ASHI or the American Society of Home inspectors which was founded in 1976 and which conducts the certification of the home inspectors.
ASHI has recommend a few courses so that the home inspectors can be abreast of latest developments in the world of home construction and hence use that knowledge in their field of working.
They offer three type of courses and these are the online course which you can take at will with no fixed time frame and then there is the one which is distance learning and paper based and the last one is the classroom one which is conducted by Kaplan and has been designed in conjunction with the ASHI.
So make sure that you get enrolled in these courses if you want to become a home inspector in the US.
